How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

New media technologies are crucial in the creation of media products. We used a range of media technologies to help us during the research and planning stage and the actual construction of our music video. The research and planning stage was possibly the most important stage to help our creative ideas grow, and this is where most of the media technologies came in useful. However, there were still a lot of new media technologies used to actually construct the final film.
Firstly, within the construction process of the music video iMovie was the main media technology that was used. Once we had recorded all the footage we needed to edit it and we used iMovie, this allowed us to cut the clips to the beat which made to music video look more exciting and is very effective. This piece of new media technology allowed us to include effects such as the old grain effect which separates the narrative from the performance section. As well as this it allowed us to use the reverse clip effect which allowed our music video to be more fun and engaging for the indie audience.
Cameras are the next crucial piece of new media technology that has allowed us to construct this music video. We used HD Cameras this year, whereas in year 12 we didn't focus on getting the right camera. The HD camera allowed our group to achieve the best quality shots possible, and the camera allowed us to record our creative ideas that we came up with as a group.
Facebook was a main technology which aided us during the construction and planning stages. It was helpful during the construction stages as it allowed us to arrange a place and time to meet and record the shots that we needed and wanted. It helped us during the planning stages as it allowed us to question people on how they felt about our concept and whether it is suitable for the indie genre.
During the planning stages Blogger was the main technology where we recorded all the information that we have been gathering. This allowed us to have all our research in one place so that we could refer back to it when constructing. As well as Blogger, we used YouTube, this is where we researched other music videos within the indie genre and found other music videos that include similar ideas and motifs as ours. This allowed us to begin to think about what shot we could use. We also used Wikipedia to gather information on the indie genre, which helped us think of mise en scene, for settings and lighting.
Finally, we used digital cameras to make our creative ideas more visual by taking pictures of locations and costumes so that the rest of the group could review this and then decide whether they were the right choice. It was also used in the ancillary tasks to create the posters and digi-pak.
Overall, using new media technologies has become a crucial part of creating media products, as they allow lots of intense planning so that the final media product can be the best it can be. It has also allowed there to be a wide range of effects used within music videos. This was extremely beneficial for our music video as in indie videos they use lots of effects to keep their audience amused and entertained.
